Frequently-Asked Questions About the HPF Children’s Ministry:

What kinds of classes do you offer for children?
Infants up to age 2: Childcare during all three services also introduces our youngest children to the love of God through simple, repetitive Bible stories and songs.
Toddlers (ages 2 and 3):A 20-30 minute lesson time includes music, finger plays, handwork and a Bible story. For the rest of the time, children engage in supervised free-play activities.
Pre-K through 5th Grade: Each week, students spend 30 minutes visiting a different interactive center that is related to the monthly unit of study. Centers vary from month to month, but may include things such as drama, cooking, science, crafts, movies and games. This format gives kids a chance to explore stories and biblical teachings on a deeper level and hide the word of God in their young hearts. We also offer two children’s worship times during each service—one for the Pre-K through 1st graders and one for the 2nd-5th graders. Each is tailored to suit the particular age group and includes elements such as singing, prayer, an offering, puppets/dramas, memory work, Bible readings, Bible drills and a Bible lesson.

What measures do you have in place to keep children safe?
Sign-In System:All students in 5th grade and below must be signed into class by a parent or another responsible adult. Simply stop by the Kidz Check-in Desk in our lobby, and someone will help you. After entering some basic information (your child’s name, age and parents’ names) into a computer, the system will print nametags for each child in your family. Nametags for children in 3rd grade and below will also include a security code. The parent will receive a tag with the matching codes for each child in the family. You cannot pick your child up from class without presenting the matching tag.
Volunteer Policies: We conduct criminal background checks on anyone who has direct contact with your children during classes. In addition, we make every effort to ensure that there are at least two adults present in every classroom. We also have a floating “Kidz Koordinator” who regularly checks in on each classroom and helps resolve any problems that may arise so that volunteers can focus on taking care of your children.
Parent Classroom Visits: Parents are welcome to drop in at any time during any our services. We want you to feel free to check up on us at any time. All classroom doors feature large glass inserts so that you can look in and see how they are doing at any point during the service.

What other programs or activities do you offer for kids?
Special Events: Periodically throughout the year, the Children’s Ministry team hosts special activities for children and their families. Events such as the Fall Festival, the Promotion Sunday Picnic, Summer Camp and Children of the Word summer program are all designed for children.
Children’s Library: We have a library full of children’s books (most of which have Christian themes) that are available for check-out at the end of each worship service. If you would like to check out a book, please ask the Kidz Koordinator (the person wearing the red apron) when you pick up our child, or contact our children’s librarian, Kristi Billingsley at 484-5473 or rillingsley@aol.com.
2nd-5th Grade Devotionals: These monthly gatherings (called D-Group) include a Bible lesson, small group share time, games, fellowships and snacks. For more information, contact Kelley Jo Stone at kelleyjostone@yahoo.com or 698-4936.
Do you have a children’s pastor?
Not exactly. We do, however, have a WONDERFUL part-time Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Andy Adkins, who heads a team of committed volunteer leaders who are each using their unique talents and gifts to bless the ministry. Andy is a former youth and outreach pastor for churches in Virginia and Tennessee who now works in the computer software field full-time and does way more work for the children’s ministry at HighPoint than what we pay him for! Feel free to contact him at andy@hpf.org

What role do parents play in children’s ministry?
As a parent, you have the most critical role in your kids spiritual development.   We encourage you to ‘live the lessons’ of faith in your family every day at home.   Here are some ideas:
After church, ask kids about the lesson and their memory verse.
Pray with your kids at mealtime, bedtime, and other times. Let them pray and hear you pray.
Read kids Bible stories and Christian books to your children.
Teach kids to share and give (we have a special kids offering in class each week)
Sponsor a fun activity for the kids in your kids class or age group.
Find a way to help in kids ministry….
