Garden

Are you a gardener longing for a plot to call your own or share with others to grow vegetables, flowers, or herbs - or all of the above?  Do you have community garden experience or irrigation or garden construction expertise? You are invited to be a part of this exciting project!

The Community Victory Garden is to include anyone who wants to learn how to garden and enjoy the wonderful bounty of your own garden.  We will provide opportunity to share your bounty with folks who are struggling financially. This project will be a great tool to bring folks together. Gardening is a great way to get to know and bond with others. Instructions and guidelines will be presented by Debbie Butynski and Norma Beissner.  They were inspired to use this section of HighPoint for a Community Victory Garden.

• Debbie has been involved in the landscape industry in the past and brings knowledge of a variety of horticultural areas.  She will be giving our volunteers instruct on the “Square foot gardening” technique we will be using in our garden space.

• Norma is a certified Master Gardener. Her knowledge and instruction on soil, plants and general information will help our teams understand how the garden grows successfully.  Let get growing!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

1. Each garden space will be assigned among our gardeners on May 3rd.  They are free to grow their choice of vegetables in the square foot gardening method.  This technique will maximize the crop yield and cut down on weeding.

2. You will be required to maintain your space and share in maintaining the common areas around your space.  Organic methods will be used around our vegetables and growing space.  We will provide these guidelines on May 3rd.

3. One growing season will be your commitment.  If you are unable to continue thru this period – let us know so we will help you find a replacement gardener.

4. You will be able to work your space at times that are convenient to your schedule.  There will be some scheduled programs.  Handout information will be given out on May 3rd.  Most information and instruction will be available by email.

5. We want you to learn first hand how to prepare a garden space which might lead you to starting one at your own home.

6. We are working with what we've got. Some amendments to the soil will be provided.  Only organic.

7. We hope that some of our experienced gardeners will share their own garden knowledge with others that have questions.

8. We will be learning how to amend the soil and  how to make it grow better vegetables.

9. This is a free space to garden for the gardener participates.  We will encourage our gardeners to find others to share some of their bounty. Your own ministry!  Sharing your new knowledge about gardening will open opportunities to get others excited about a lot of things beyond gardening!  If you want we will provide opportunities to share your bounty with folks who are struggling financially.
